Help Make the Magic Happen at ASFA
ASFA’s Annual Fund is the main source of generosity that bridges the gap between state funding and the actual cost of an ASFA education.
Every investment goes toward the growth and future of the ASFA student experience. Each gift is vital in meeting our goals and supporting the ASFA mission for the good of our students, Alabama, and the world.
Annual Fund Gifts support:
- Curriculum-enhancing experiences like guest artists
- Summer-defining educational opportunities through our Summer Intensive Grant Program
- Purpose-built facilities
- Technology resources and much more!

Other Ways to Give
In addition to making a gift online or mailing a check, there are many ways to support the ASFA mission!
Employer Matching Gifts
- Many corporations will match donations to encourage employees to support causes they believe in. Contact your or your spouse’s company human resources or community giving office, to find out if they have a matching gift program. Then, simply follow your employer’s process of requesting matching gift funds. If your gift is eligible, there will likely be an easy form to complete and for ASFA to confirm that your donation has been made. Here is some information you might need:
In-kind Gifts
- In-kind donations can help us improve our facilities, expand our offerings, and enrich our students’ experience. Not all donations can be accepted, contact Beth Mulvey.
Planned Giving
- Planned gifts can be a thoughtful way to reach your charitable goals, gain financial advantages and create a lasting legacy of excellence for future generations of ASFA students.
- There are many ways to give a planned gift — the easiest way is to remember ASFA through a charitable bequest – a gift made to charity through your will or trust.
- Thinking about planned giving? If you would like more information or if you have already included ASFA in your estate plans, contact Beth Mulvey at bmuvley@asfa.k12.al.us or 205-252-6617.
IRA Gifts
- A qualified charitable distribution from an IRA is a good way for IRA owners age 70½ and over to support ASFA.
- Instruct your IRA custodian to make a distribution directly to our organization.
- Although there is no tax deduction, the distribution is excluded from your income for federal tax purposes—no tax is due!
- Up to $105,000 of your gift (limit for 2024) qualifies for this favorable tax treatment.
- A qualified charitable distribution from an IRA counts toward a donor's required minimum distribution (RMD) if one is due.
Gifts of Securities
- Thank you for considering stocks, bonds and mutual fund shares as part of your charitable giving.
- Gifts of securities can be an easy way to give to ASFA and in many cases offers a tax advantage. We recommend that you consult with your tax advisor in order to learn more about the advantages of gifting securities.
Endowed Giving
- Endowed gifts work like a savings account. The investment amount remains in perpetuity and the Alabama School of Fine Arts is able to use the interest each year to support the cause you are most interested in. Named endowments star with gifts of $25,000 or more. To learn more about our endowment, contact Beth Mulvey, 205-252-6617.

ASFA Foundation
The ASFA Foundation's mission is to support the Alabama School of Fine Arts and the Alabama arts community by educating students as participants and supporters of the arts and sciences
The Alabama School of Fine Arts Foundation was created in 1976 with the mission of engaging private sector support to address school needs. Supported by a Director of Development, the Foundation works closely with the school to identify opportunities to support our students and faculty and build a generation of artists, scientists, and thinkers prepared to take the world by storm. The Foundation’s Board of Directors is composed of individuals who are passionate about the arts and education, and we are grateful for their efforts to assist, sponsor, and encourage the efforts of the school.

Summer Intensives
Receiving the Summer Intensive Grant allowed me to focus on what I am passionate about without the financial burden. I gained experience participating in competitions against people all across the nation and learned from experts in the field I'm interested in.
Summer Intensive Grants for ASFA Students
A limited number of grants of $1,000 - $2,000 are available for Summer Intensive programs recommended by specialty faculty. Grants will be considered for recommended programs based on the students’ particular skills and potential for advancement and/or to access to opportunities different from those offered in the ASFA curriculum. Grants are intended to support efforts to strategically augment a student’s growth in their specialty, as opposed to the general exploration of a school, region, or topic.
Recommendations completed by March 1st will be reviewed by the Grant/Financial Aid Committee. Payments will be made directly to the Program.
