Students and alums describe ASFA as the place where they "found my people." The rigorous academic and specialty curriculum is balanced with a supportive and welcoming environment where students and faculty celebrate growth and learning. ASFA's seven-person Student Support Services Department leads social and emotional learning for all students and offers individual and small group counseling, and career and college counseling to students.
ASFA is located in downtown Birmingham's cultural district, within walking distance of the Birmingham Museum of Art, the new stadium, the civil rights district, and CityWalk. The campus encompasses one city block between 18th and 19th Streets North and is easily accessible to all Birmingham metro communities and major highways. The campus includes the state-of-the-art 500-seat Dorothy Jemison Day Theater, secure dorms, art gallery, recital hall, 3 large dance studios, black box theater, and an enclosed courtyard. The diverse student body is made up of 350 students from across Alabama in grades 7-12.

ASFA students receive hundreds of recognitions in competitions at the state, regional, and national levels each year
91% of graduating seniors receive offers of merit scholarships for study at colleges, universities, or pre-professional conservatories (a five-year average)
ASFA average ACT score is 26.8 (national avg: 20.8)
$48+ million dollars of merit scholarships have been offered to ASFA seniors over the past 5 years
90% of the merit offers are for multiple years of study (up to 4 years)
50% of ASFA graduates attend Alabama colleges and universities. UAB and the University of Alabama share a freshmen report card with us, and our graduates are always at the top of the class
